Hello and welcome back to the nutrifood blog.
In my last post I comment on the importance of water and the benefits of it, remember? I trust you have made smart decisions since then and are now investing in good quality water.
Today we are going to talk about fruits, super fruits and super foods!
I’m Brazilian and in my country fruits are abundant and everybody has access to them. Fruit is cheap and sometimes free! Due to the tropical weather in Brazil we have variety of species and delicious fruits such as, Acai berries, mangos, pineapples, oranges, bananas, acerola, pawpaw, passionfruit and many others.
I grew up eating and drinking fruit as far back as I can remember. My mother used to blend everything available, in season, and make the most of it for our family. Especially in times where there was an abundance of fruit during spring and summer. My favorite smoothie was banana with cinnamon and honey.
Today my passion is to create superfood smoothies that are like meals, and as nutritive as solid meals. I have them twice a day sometimes and I can guarantee that this is one of the easiest ways to feed and nourish the body and improve general nutrition.
You can make great meals and smoothies using some superfoods like:
• chia seeds,
• raw cacau,
• maca powder
• linseed ground.
Start with one or two fruits and one superfood each time and invent your own flavour to suits your palate. Be creative and use seasonal produce always looking for vine ripped fruits.
My favorite superfood smoothie is:
100–150 g acai berries, frozen
1/2 banana
1/2 cup ice
1 cup of water
1 tablespoon of chia seeds
1 teaspoon of maca power
You can also add some protein powder to your smoothie if you like such as pea protein, whey protein or any similar product that may feel right for you. Protein takes more time to digest therefore you will feel more satisfied. Just remember to look for natural alternatives of protein powders and avoid artificial flavours and sweeteners.
In my next post I will teach you some interesting facts about vegetables and why they are the best food, if you want to be younger, healthier and stronger. Until then stay healthy and use the superpower of nutrition!
